Boho Wedding Inspiration

Welcome to the first in a new series of wedding inspiration features! One of the things I love most about Coco & Kate is getting to know the fabulous brides that visit the boutique to find their gown. We talk, we chat, we converse and I get to find out so much about everyone’s wedding plans. I must admit that I adore hearing all about themes, styles and colour palettes and my creative mind soaks up all the detail! So, over the next few months, I’m going to be taking some of the most popular wedding themes and featuring them here, on the Coco & Kate blog, for us all to enjoy. The long hot summer days are definitely my inspiration for today’s post that’s all about the boho. Now I know that we have some absolutely delightful boho wedding dresses ready for you at Coco & Kate (Love Marley for example and coming soon, Anna Campbell) and of course, there are bridal accessories aplenty to complete your look. So, once you’ve decided on your wedding day outfit with us, it’s time to plan the rest of your boho wedding…

The key to successfully styling your wedding is to keep everything as natural and as uncontrived as possible. Bohemian means to ‘live and act free of regard for conventional rules and practices’ so forget the carefully matched, immaculately finished look and opt instead for a wilder, more ‘undone’ vibe.

Keep everything as natural as possible, whether it’s a slightly casual, more unstructured hairstyle or simple hand-tied bouquets and buttonholes. This look is beautifully natural so embrace simplicity! In terms of flowers, work with your florist to use seasonal, native blooms and don’t be afraid to use lots of foliage too – grasses, leaves and herbs will all suit this theme perfectly and you can also include feathers, antlers and all manner of alternative accessories.

Making the most of the great outdoors is certainly an important part of the boho lifestyle so definitely choose a venue that will allow you to roam and enjoy. Tipis and yurts are great alternatives to a traditional wedding venue but there’s nothing to stop you setting up a smaller outside seating area. Think blankets, cushions and an evening under the stars – how romantic!

Again, tables should be as natural as possible so forget starched table linen and instead, keep the wood on show and bring colour along the centre of the table with flowers, fabrics and accessories. Long tables work really well at the boho wedding and they’re so fabulously communal. Consider coloured glassware or charger plates for additional pops of colour. I love cake and the naked cake trend is certainly one of my favourites. The un-iced fruitcake, filled with Italian meringue is both rustic and luxurious all in one. Again, lots of floral additions make it look so special although it would be a shame to cut it. Well, almost…

Boho weddings have so many opportunities for adding detail so pick your favourites and have fun styling. I adore the combinations of wood, fabric and flowers so why not create your own ceremony arch, backdrop or chairbacks? Another little dash of personalisation that’s an easy DIY is the chalkboard sign – proclaim your love for all to see!
